Frank,

I'm sure you've mellowed since Vung Tau. You didn't seem that deranged when serving as the liaison at the LOGC at Ft. Lee, VA. I never had an opportunity to serve with your mates outside the US but the ones I've met while representing the US on the ABCA QWGLOG were top drawer (and knew how to party). How you and Ruth are well. Still working on a space A hop to OZ.

A Review in "The Age" 4/08/07 concludedes:

"If you read only one military history this year, make it The Minefield; if you don't read military history, make an exception. This is a story Australians need to know."

I loved it that a friend sent this to me (thanks Marijka). I worked for Frank in his last posting before his illness (Director, State Development Centre, Brisbane). A big man with an even bigger personality - the best manager I have very worked with. I live in Saigon and have been to Vung Tau and the Long Tan 40 year memorial - it's nice to hear stories on the lighter side.

This is a great site, your music and words capture everything we went through in Nam, You two gentlemen have done all of us Australian and American Vietnam Veterans PROUD!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for your service and thanks for being the greatest allies we Americans have ever had the privlege of serving with, your fellow Australians can be PROUD of their magnificent troops who performed brilliantly and with great Courage, Gallantry, and Supreme Valor on the battlefields of Vietnam. I also had the great thrill of taking my R&R to Sydney, Australia in the last week of October 1969, it was one of my most cherished memories from that war.

My God bless and reward you most abunately in your future. It is my pleasure to pass on the information about your site to my fellow veterans and my friends. I was assigned to the Vietnamese Air Base at Binh-Thuy outside of Can-Tho City, in the Mekong Delta, serving as an Advisor to the Vietnamese Air Force. I also served as a Combat Sercurity Policeman guarding the perimeter at night with the 632nd Security Police Squadron of the US Air Force, I was an Airman first class (Two stripes).

Thank you again for your service. Terry A. Sasek A 1/C USAF Veteran 1968-1974. Vietnam Nov. 1968 - Nov. 1969

Hello Dr Jan ,
You may care to have a look at a web site that I administer http://www.covvhs.org.au/ for the 'Children of Vietnam Veterans Health Study Inc' or just click on my post name.
Further;
No body wants to know or think about Toxic Brain Syndrome, I.E my daughter is a clinical psychologist and says to me that the evidence for dioxins / TBS link is not there, my response is that nobody is looking for the link because it is not fashionable due to pressure from the major chemical companies.
And certainly, it would appear, the major ESO's don't want to know about it because at this point TBS is just a syndrome and not an identifiable disease thus there is no Repatriation Medical Authority Statement of Principle to make a claim with DVA.
Sadly, I believe, this is in part why the Repatriation Commission is doing all in its power to confound the 'Children of Vietnam Veterans health Study'.
Kind regards,
David Matheson

Thanks for your comment. It was a bit head scratching but pleasing (because they could clink) to get two medals for Vietnam. Then after 15 years another one for long service - fair enough, and then another one for long service for the same period that police, firemen etc got.

When I left the Army I had four medals, not quite a row, but reasonable.
Then the mailouts arrived - one for being in PNG before independence, not that anyone was fighting anyone. Then two more for just being in the Army.

I'm not complaining, mind you, I'm starting to look decidedly gallant for Anzac Day although I haven't done anything since 1986, but the medals
still keep coming.

Give my regards to your family.

Cheers
